I found a great article on reading to your child I thought you all might be interested in.http://www.rif.org/us/literacy-resources/articles/reading-with-your-child.htm

We will begin to integrate more technology tools into class in the next few weeks so that we can use these devices to help us in learning and also help us learn how to use these devices we will need in the future. We plan on doing a story book activity with the puppet pals app on the class ipods next Thursday (we will post all the student videos on the blog so you can see what your child has made). If you have an ipad/ipod touch etc. consider downloading this free app, the students love it!

Thank you all so much for your comments and involvement in the website! From what I hear you saying is that papers tend to get lost somewhere between the classroom and the front door, at 6 years old that is very understandable. In order to help with this issue I am going to begin putting up PDF versions of all the homework assignments so you can print them out at home if they get lost. I will also create a page for our spelling words and study guides for tests. I am a little slow with technology but hope to have them up by next week. Thank you all again for your feedback it really helps!

Also more classwork pictures coming soon!! The science lesson on worms this week got pretty intense :)

The students had a wonderful time at show and tell yesterday. We got to learn about each other, practice our oral and listening skills, and even organize our items into different categories. Thank you parents for helping us with this project, your children are wonderfully unique!

On back to school night we talked about establishing a strong relationship so we can best serve your child. I just sent out an email about scheduling times to get together and set goals for the school year. Be expecting a call or contact from me this week to plan a time that works best for you.

Enjoy your Labor Day!

Last night many of you mentioned the SOL standards. Here is a link to the Virginia Standards of Learning http://www.doe.virginia.gov/testing/sol/standards_docs/index.shtml .
We will be covering all of these throughout the year as well as further learning.
I will put our 9 week curriculum outline on the website shortly (just have a few more team meetings to set things in stone) so you can have an idea of where we are headed.
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask.

Day One went wonderfully! Today we got to know each other, established some class rules, and looked at our schedule for the week. Some district forms were sent home today that are due Friday (see the Homework tab for more information), please contact me if you have any questions. Your children are very special and I know this year will be one to remember.
